John H. Wade and Julia Ann Neely lived in the central Texas area in the later half of the 19th century.  They had a large family, from which the descendants have scattered across the country.  This page is meant to help keep this large group in touch with each other.  I hope to be able to add recent family news, and annoucements to this page.  I will also be adding information on John and Julia's ancestors and descendants.

The Basics:

John H. Wade was born abt 1842 in Perry County, Arkansas, the second child of Edmund Wade and his first wife, who is believed to be Martha McCabe. John's middle name was long thought to be William, however, new information found on September 5, 2002, has made it clear that his middle initial was H.  He is listed on the 1867 voter's registratuion list of Brazos County, Texas, as J. H. WADE, and the document even contains his signature.

Julia Ann Neely was born 31 May 1850 in Logan County, Kentucky, the eleventh of 13 children born to David J and Eliza Ann (CARTER) NEELY.

John Wade moved to Texas after the Civil War, probably after the death of his first wife.  Her name is unknown, but she is thought to have been Sarah Williams.  They had two daughters, Sarah Lou, and Martha.  We do not know what became of these daughters after 1880.

Julia Ann NEELY came to Texas between 1850 and 1854 with her parents, and they settled in Caldwell County, Texas.  Julia Ann's Father, David NEELY died in 1856, and her Mother died in abt. 1862.  Julia lived with her siblings until she married John WADE in Gozales County, Texas, on 04 Apr 1867.

They then had a large family of 6 children, 5 sons and 1 daughter. On the 190 and 1910 census Julia Ann said that she was the Mother of 8 children, in 1900 6 were living and in 1910 5 were living. Apparently, there was another WADE child who died either between 1870 and 1880, or Julia Ann had a child by one of her two other husbands who she later married before 1900. The known children are as follows:

John L WADE b. Dec 1868 Brazos County, Texas d. 07 Sep 1900 Galveston, Texas, in the worst Hurricane on record in the US. This Hurricane happened before they started naming them, but was later named Goliath. John was married to Zella Mae ALLEN. They had three children, there are no known descendants.  For more information, see page on John.

James C Wade b. Apr 1870 d. Bef. 1891 in Bastrop County, Texas. He is buried in an unmarked grave in the Jeddo Cemetery in Bastrop County, Texas.

Jesse Hampton Wade b. 28 Dec 1871 in Texas d. 24 Jul 1940 Cedar Park, Williamson County, Texas. He is buried in the Cedar Park Cemetery. He was married to Maggie Alice FERRILL b. 25 Feb 1877 in Nevade, Missouri, and died in a car accident, 25 Dec 1969, in Williamson County, Texas. She is also buried in the Cedar Park Cemetery.

William Green Wade b. 16 Nov 1874 in Texas, d. 19 Nov 1938, in Austin, Travis County, Texas.  buried in Cedar Park Cemetery. He was married to Jessie Ollie KIRK b. 24 Nov 1891 d. 07 Feb 1959, buried in Greens Bayou Cemetery.

Margaret Angeline "Maggie" Wade b. 29 Jul 1876 in Texas, probably Bastrop County, Texas, d. 04 May 1927 in Bishop, Nueces County, Texas. she is buried in the Bishop Cemetery. She was married to Charles Sumner "C.S." TRUE b. 31 Jan 1857 in Amesbury, Mass. d. 25 Apr 1937 in Bishop, Nueces County, Texas. He is also buried in the Bishop Cemetery.

George Washington Wade b. 02 Sep 1878, Jeddo, Bastrop County, Texas, d. 01 Sep 1965 Austin, Travis County, Texas. He is buried in the Bagdad Cemetery, in Leander, Texas.  He was married to Bessie Mae HODGE b. 21 Jun 1891 b. in White/Van Buren County, Tennessee, and d. 23 Aug 1969, in Wewoka, Seminole County, Oklahoma. She is also buried in Bagdad Cemetery.

On the 1880 census of Bastrop County, Texas, you can find listed the family of John and Julia. John is listed as bedridden with an inflamed urethra. He later died, Apr 1881, in Jeddo, Batrop County, Texas.  Julia Ann still had a medical tool she used to assist her ill husband when she died in 1933.

Julia Ann was a young widow with 6 young children and two step daughters when her husband died in 1881.  She was 31 years old.  In 1883, she had a son named Elijah Thomas "Tom" WILLIAMS. b. 24 Mar 1883, Jeddo, Bastrop County, Texas.  Tom's Father was Julia's second husband, John WILLIAMS, who is thought to have been the brother of John WADE's first wife.

There are several stories and theories about what happened to the marriage between Julia and John Williams. See the page on Julia for more information.

Julia Ann married her third husband, J H WHITE on 8 Feb 1894 in Burnet County, Texas. A letter from daughter-in-law, Zella (CONWAY) WADE written in 1895 says to Mrs. J. A. WHITE.  It has been said that this marriage was also short lived, and no children where born of this union.

Julia Ann died 11 Jan 1933, Williamson County, Texas, and is buried in the Cedar Park Cemetery.

See the page for each child for more information on that line of the family.

John and Julia Ann (NEELY) WADE left behind many descendants, and a heritage to be proud of from a strong central Texas family, who saw and over came many obstacles, to now have in the ranks many preachers, teachers, and the like.

RECENT NEWS AND EVENTS:

September 11, 2002
John Doesn't have a tombstone at his grave, yet!

I (Jason Haydon) am ordering a military marker to be placed on his grave.  I plan on sending the application in by the end of September, which means that the stone should arrive around late December/early January.

Sometime next summer, during the warmer, drier months, I am going to place the stone at his grave, or what we believe is his grave in the Jeddo Cemetery.  I am inviting all descendant of John WADE and Julia Ann NEELY/WADE/WILLIAMS/WHITE to attend.  Please watch for more information.

August 10th 2002:

The bi-annual Wade-Neely family reunion was held in Cedar Park, TX on August 10th. There were just over 50 people in attendance, representing descendants of Jesse Hampton Wade, William Green Wade, and George Wade.  Unfortunately, no descendants of Maggie (WADE) TRUE or Tom WILLIAMS were able to attend this year.  As a group, we voted to move the reunion from the second weekend of August to the first weekend of August from now on.  This was done because of school often starting right after the second weekend of August to allow for family members who have school children, or who are teachers to be able to attend the reunion.  Many thanks go out to Pat, Carolyn, and Selma for the work that they did in organizing things this year.  We are looking for ideas as to where to hold the 2004 reunion.  If you have ideas or suggestions, you can email me at jdhaydon@yahoo.com, and I will pass the information along.

Recognition was made for new found relatives, Edna (SMITH) DUDLEY, and her husband, Dan; Richard WADE of Arkansas, and some of Uncle Willie'd descendants. Recognition for the farthest travelled to attend goes to Bill Whitten, who came in from Seattle, Washington, to attend this years reunion.

On a much sadder note:

This morning, August 10th, 2002, Lou Ella (NANCE) WADE, wife of George Washington Taylor "Taylor" WADE passed away this morning.  Our prayers go out to her family in this difficult time. A memorial page will be added tomorrow for Aunt Lou Ella.

Plan Ahead!

The next WADE-NEELY reunion is going to be on August 7th, 2004. Mark your calenders early, and plan to come, and enjoy a day of food, fun and family.  You're sure to have a good time! We don't have location yet, but don't worry, where ever we meet it will be great!
Keep watching for updated information.

Update:  We have our location for this years reunion.  Please see link on left for map and driving directions.  The reunion will be held in the family life center at New Hope Baptist Church in Cedar Park, Texas.
